What’s your idea? Do you struggle to find clarity on what exactly the one thing is that you want to do? The greatest challenge for most in going from idea to action is lack of clarity. You might decide you want to open a photography business but then you struggle with just focusing on one niche. Niche doesn’t have to be a curse word. Although I do love when I get to a place that I know who I’m targeting and I can make them my NICHE! (See what I did there!)
So where do you start in this whole clarity game. If you want clarity in your business, you need to start with the end in mind.
Step 1: VISUALIZE
Let’s think ahead to a year, 3 years or 5 years from now. What does life look like? Take some time to really think about what a typical day looks like for you and your family. Are you traveling, living off grid, driving a Benz, doing mission work abroad or just enjoying a simple life in the suburbs. (Here’s my little secret: I just want to live in a little country house and enjoy a simple life. With some opportunities for travel with my family. Boring? Maybe but it’s my life. I get to design it.)
Note: This step of thinking with the end in mind is so important. It will help guide you and align your projects and business ideas to be working in favor of your goals. It will also help you have a filter to put your ideas through so you can decide if they are a fit or not. Let’s face it, we all wish we had a crystal ball this is as close as it gets.
STEP 2: GUT CHECK
The second step in seeking clarity is trusting your gut. Does this thing give you joy? Do you truly want to be doing this for 3, 5 or 10 years. This has to be a no brainer. If you have doubts it’s time to determine if it’s self doubt because you are afraid to fail or if it’s really your gut saying no. If it’s your gut saying no. It’s time to set this idea free.
STEP 3: HONOR AND GRACE
The third step in your quest for clarity on your next big idea is going to sound a bit abstract but here goes…give yourself grace. Grace to change your mind and tweak as you go. Nothing in life is written in stone. Your business idea can change, pivot or even be completely discarded. The only hard edges around our business are the ones we place there.
I’d love to help you find clarity and get from idea to action. If you’re still on the edge waiting to leap into something amazing but feeling unsure about steps and whether it will work be sure to join the Dare to Do to get inspired, motivated and more steps to going from idea to action.
