The algorithm sucks, nobody sees my Facebook posts, people don’t want to buy from me. Blah, blah, blah! It’s actually a lie. It’s the lie you’re telling yourself. The one that stops you from having to do the work of being visible, creating content or building relationships; because it feels hard or uncomfortable. I think the worst part is that it doesn’t have to be that hard. Don’t believe me? I’m going to show you how easy this is.
Let’s start with the goal here. The goal is to be present and show up as an “expert” so that when someone does need you…they have you top of mind. I mean wouldn’t you love someone to come to you for a change? Instead of running around feeling like you have to convince people to buy your product or service? That’s why it’s so important to just keep going. Stay visible.
The problem: Last week I broke my apple slicer. I know, first world problems. Stay with me here. I took my problems straight to Facebook. I went live and in doing my demo of how terrible my slicer was it broke completely. My video was just a funny in the moment thing because we love sharing our family shenanigans. However I did want peoples suggestions and they shared their top apple slicer picks. Pampered chef was mentioned a ton of times. So in my mind, it’s a no brainer, gotta get a pampered chef slicer. I know like 10 people who sell pampered chef. Truth be told I know about 10 people that sell everything. But what happened next is where the story gets good. Soo good in fact that everyone in business can learn from this. Take notes.
The solution: I scrolled through my feed and my lovely friend Kathryn has a post and a video about some egg thing. Kathryn sells pampered chef and truth be told…I’m not all into cooking. I have the tools I need for the job I have to get done. That’s it. But when I see Kathryn talking about her little egg thing…VIOLA!! I remember the apple slicer that I need to get because all my friends said so. Right!?! So I comment under the video and said “hey I need an apple slicer” or something like that. Here’s the IMPORTANT part…Kathryn followed up, placed my order and I’m off to dream about slicing apples like a ninja or like Drake, whichever.
Kathryn was visible. If you look at the video, Kathryn is fresh out of the shower or something. She’s literally like here I am in my house people. I’m cute, I’m clean, I’m smart and I’m friendly. Let me show you my little egg thing, it’s amazing and you need one too. Let me show you all the amazing things you can do with it, eat with it etc (clearly I’m giving y’all the cliff notes version).
Kathryn sold an apple slicer because she was in her house showing me a little egg thing that I don’t even need (but now may want cuz she mentioned something about making French Toast in it). LOL I swear we live in great times.
Where were you when I needed you?
P.S. I met Kathryn once at an event. She’s either going to love this post or hate me. But the truth is….Kathryn is winning. Be more like Kathryn.
